Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps was begun on November 10th, 1921. That date was chosen because it was the date that the Second Continental Congress resolved in 1775, to raise two battalions of Continental Marines. The rest is history, as this plaque memorializes the Marines of the Battle of Princeton.

Happy Birthday Marines!
To Chesty and to my Father, who’s with Chesty, now.
As my Father always said: Once a Marine, Always a Marine!

There was a General Chesty Puller who was the most decorated Marine in history. He was a Virginian. One of the most inspiring talks I ever heard was given by his son, also a war veteran. Thank you for your comment. Semper Fi.
My Dad (since passed away) and myself both are proud Virginians. Every 11/10 we’d have a toast to old Chesty Puller.
